Waiting for the cities to burn

Well, it goes without saying that the cities of Iraq did not burn on September 30th, 2010 (see previous post). And so we are closer to the deadline for withdrawal of all the occupying troops -- now at 50,000 or so -- set to occur by the end of 2011.

If the troops withdraw per the agreed to timetable, and the cities of Iraq have not burned, then we can know for sure that the events in Iraq today ARE NOT the fulfullment of the 2,600 year-old prophecy written in the book of Jeremiah in the hebrew bible.

On some level I hope it is not, because then I can abandon this thread, mark the site "MYTH BUSTED," and get back to watching football and living life with carefree casualness, secure in knowing that ancient prophecies of doom on nations of this planet are not coming to life here in my lifetime.

Jeremiah was clear: it is the burning of the cities that drives the occupiers to abandon Babylon (Jer 51:58,9), and the burning is the next event in the sequence of disasters after the punishment of the arrogant one (Jer 50:32).

Frankly, I'm growing skeptical of my delusion.

The withdrawal date draws closer day by day. Soon we shall know, one way or the other.
